Sandugo Trade Expo highlights green products & initiatives on July 24-28

More than 90 exhibitors coming from the Visayas and Mindanao will participate in the  Sandugo Regional Trade Expo at the Island City Mall, Tagbilaran City on July 24-28, 2013.

Working on the theme “Go green. Buy local.”, this year’s trade event will feature environment friendly product lines and prototypes for handicraft, processed food, fashion accessories, gifts, decors and housewares. This is in support of Philippine tourism and the Promotion of Green  Economic Development (ProGED), a joint project of the DTI and the Deutsche Gesellschaft Fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) , a German Technical Agency.

Other activities of the trade fair will include a Green Forum on July 25 and an SME Roving Academy and National Competitiveness Council Roadshow on July 26.

National and international buyers are also expected to be present during the fair, including exporters, buying agents, wholesalers, retailers, manufacturers and subcontractors.

Booths will also be set up at the Island City Mall to display green initiatives and the wealth of natural wonders in the country that are available for tourists and visitors.

ProGED is a project that addresses climate change and environmental threats from the perspective of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the Philippines. DTI recognizes
the strong link between the green development path and enhancing the competitiveness of enterprises

The Philippine government is currently encouraging MSMEs to adopt energy saving and recycling measures that will contribute to a sustainable environment and reduce waste. Research shows that there is a growing trend for visitors to seek out tourism businesses that take an ethical approach to the environment, and many of these visitors are prepared to pay more for ‘greener’ products and services.
